Recent Details Emerge Concerning the Finding of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner's Remains
New information has come to light about the tragic demises of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles property on Sunday.
The Initial Report
A source indicates quoting a person close to the family, a massage therapist scheduled for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after not being able to enter the residence. The practitioner then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
After gaining access to the residence, Romy came upon her father's body. Accounts indicate she then left the home distraught, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Another individual who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Afterward, paramedics discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Proceedings
Authorities have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, as well as the charge related to a weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently detained and is ineligible for bail.
Correcting the Record
The anonymous source challenged several previously reported details. They said that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that juncture.
The source also pushed back against published notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "concerned" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. Rather the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement applies to reports of reportedly "erratic" behavior by Nick at a gathering hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. While the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they maintained that claims of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.
Ongoing Inquiry Timeline
According to law enforcement officials, the coroner had still not confirmed as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some accounts indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been deceased for some hours.
Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had not been medically cleared and would not appear until Wednesday or later.
