The veteran filmmaker has evolved into not just a historical storyteller; he is a brand, an unparalleled production entity. Whenever he releases documentary series premiering on the PBS network, everybody wants a part of him.

Still, no contemporary observers remain, photography and newsreels compelled the production to lean heavily on primary texts, combining individual perspectives of numerous historical characters. This allowed them to show spectators beyond the prominent leaders of the revolution plus numerous additional crucial to understanding, numerous individuals never even had a portrait painted.

Burns also indulged his personal passion for maps and spatial representation. “I have great affection for cartography,” he observes, “with greater cartographic content in this project compared to previous works throughout my entire career.”
