This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
