UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl containing several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with unique anxieties and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes show the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can activate something primal within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers where their heads should be. Flowers are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four personas asserts that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player believes a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
